a joint venture
of Wintershall Dea AG and
SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH

WIGA Transport Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. KG (WIGA) is a joint venture of Wintershall Dea AG, Germany, and SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH, Germany.

GAZPROM and Wintershall Dea joined forces more than 30 years ago to expand the position of the energy source natural gas in the European market. The transport of natural gas through pipelines will continue to be of great importance for Europe's security of supply in the future. Both partners have contributed in material ways to creating the transport systems needed to achieve that.

WIGA operates as holding company for the joint transport activities and primarily takes on financing and reporting responsibilities for the companies of the WIGA Group. WIGA's subsidiaries – GASCADE Gastransport GmbH, and NEL Gastransport GmbH – operate independently under the umbrella of the holding company.

GASCADE operates a Germany-wide long-distance pipeline network of about 3,200 kilometers in length. The company’s activities are centered around providing transparent, customer-friendly access to this transport system. Located at the heart of Europe and connected not only to the major transit lines from Russia and the North Sea but also to the European natural-gas trading points, GASCADE’S infrastructure has become a hub for European gas transport. In 2019, the transported volume of gas was about 54 billion cubic meters.

NEL Gastransport GmbH is the network operator of the North European Gas Pipeline (NEL). The company is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable transport of natural gas from the landing point of the Nord Stream Baltic Sea pipeline in Lubmin near Greifswald westwards towards Rehden in Lower Saxony, where the gas is stored or fed into the existing gas pipeline network. The NEL has the capacity to transport more than 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
